Two trips to the Caribbean a year is about all I can manage. 7-8 days each time. For the past few years I have been buried in my work and have not dated nor had a steady partner to share in the excitement of diving and the experiences that have occurred. A few of the places would have really been paradise in the clouds if I’d have had someone to share it with.
I’m just an old guy, that’s in pretty good shape. Not the most handsome face on the block, but ‘I ain’t but ugly’ either. Forgive the grammar, but I’m a guy and a Texan, so you’ll see an occational laps into dirt farmer speak sometimes. I work hard to stay at a good target weight, 172lbs. If I’d a had a choice I would have grown two and a half more inches and made six foot. I blame that on Mom. She is the short one in the family. Dad was 6’4”, so I hit right in the middle. I think all of the males born after me, brother, nephews, cousins, are all taller than me. Please don’t get me wrong, I don’t have a short complex, just got started on the subject and kept writing. So, let’s change it.
I started diving in Oct. of 2002, and almost by mistake. I was at one of those ‘no brainer’, all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica. Great resort, the food was exceptional and hanging out at the bars was a nighttime ritual. One afternoon walking by the pool, I notice people sitting on the bottom of the pool with equipment on. I ask the lifeguard, ‘What the heck are those people doing?’. He told me they were training for the ‘resort’ dive course. 1/2hr. in class, 1/2hr. in the pool and they take you diving! Cool, where do I sign? From that and with my first dive (water was only about 25” deep), tag me and mount me. I had been hooked! Went back six months later and in the dive shop I said, ‘I want to sign up for all the dives all week’. He said I could only do three, as I was not certified. My disappoint me was evident. He said ask me how long I’d be there, I told him seven days. He said, ‘Get certified’. My reaction was ‘WHAT?’. Fr
